我们身边有许多品德高尚的人,他们用自己的痛苦换取别人的幸福。他们的希望犹如春天里孕育花朵的种子,又像治疗不幸和悲伤的药膏,而他们却因自己的奢望而痛不欲生。

What about "在这个世上,存在着这样一些拥有圣洁灵魂的人:他们在悲伤时依然带给他人快乐;他们自己的现世愿望,就如种子一般,与眼泪一起被深深埋入墓穴,但却开出了疗伤的芬芳花朵,抚慰孤独哀伤的灵魂。"

I'm reading Uncle Tom's Cabin. The sentence comes from Chapter 9. I don't know what "spring up into" mean here. And I don't understand the structure of "are the seed from which spring healing flowers and balm for the desolate and the distressed" and what the word "which" refer to. What's your opinion?

Hehe~~ I'm sorry, actually I never read this book, but I personlly think it's  absoulutely a good book, worth reading! Since I don't know the context, I'll make a guess here:
There are certain souls in this world, and these souls are blessed. Because their sorrows will quickly be enbraced and faded away by joys from others (other happy and optimistic souls). Their hopless sandness and distress (with tears laid in the grave and buried underground) will be healed by spring and comforted by balm.
"spring (in)to" means come quickly; "balm" is something that give comfort.

Nice guess! The background is, in general, about a mother Mrs Bird (whose child is dead) helps another mother Eliza (who is a slave) to escape from some guy (who is going to buy the slave mother's child). This sentence is written after Mrs Bird gives her child's toys to Eliza's son. Hehe, are you confused?
