Dear Jim,
亲爱的吉姆，
I am writing this note to apologize to you for myfailure to visit your city and join you as promised.
我给你写信的目的是想向你道歉，我没有按说好的去参观你生活的城市，没有去拜访你。
It so happened that my father suddenly fell ill whenwe were just about to make the trip.
就在我要启程的时候，我的父亲突然病了。
I had to send him immediately to the hospital and take care of him for a while.

I wish that we could fix another date and make up for it.
