面临灭绝的动物(Endangered animals)
Red panda is one of the endangered animals. They live in the cool temperate bamboo forests of southern Asia.
They have a long bushy and ringed tail. Their bodies are overed entirely by soft, dense fur, like a giant fox. They are crepuscular which most active at dawn and dusk. They more like a cat.
Red pandas mainly feed on bamboo, and they also eat acorns, roots, lichens, berries and occasionally eggs and young birds.
Red pandas’ breeding season is from the middle of January to early march and each female is receptive just only for one day. About six weeks before giving birth, the female will build a nest of sticks with leaves and grass in a hollow tree or rock crevice. As a rule, there will be one or two cubs are born in a litter. The mother and cubs will recognize each other by their own special scent. After seventeen to eighteen days, the cubs will open their eyes. By ninety days they will have full adult coloration and by one hundred and twenty five to one hundred and thirty five days they will be able to take solid food.
Red pandas’ growth is slowly, because the mother can produce low-nutrient quality milk, since she eats mostly bamboo. As for the males, they are not involved with the cubs.
The main threat to red pandas is habitat destruction. Now there are less and less habitats for pandas to live in the earth. So the red pandas are endangered.
By scientist’ calculation draw a consolation that today there are less than 2,500 adult red pandas. We should try our best to protect them.
