Honey for the Bears
The brown bears were having a picnic in the woods. They had honey sandwiches, cream buns and ginger beer. When every bit of the food had been eaten they ran races and played games. All the brown bears had a lovely time - but the bumble bees did not. They were very angry.
“Every time the brown bears have a picnic,” Mr Bumble grumbled. “They take all over honey that we've worked so hard to make. It has got to stop! But how can we stop them?”
Some said: “Let us sting them.”
Others said: “We must hide the honey.” But at last they all decided to go home and think about it.
Mr Bumble went to Teddy Bear, and told him about the meeting. Teddy Bear was very sorry that the brown bears had upset the bees.
“We will try to think of something,” said Teddy Bear. “And we will all have a meeting next week.”
So everyone thought and thought. Then the day of the second meeting came.
Mrs Teddy Bear said, “If there was a shop where we could buy honey, we would not need to take it from the bees.”
Mrs Bumble said, “None of the bees would mind selling the bears a little honey.”
“I have a good idea,” said Teddy Bear. “If the bees had a shop and the bears bought a little honey now and then and stored it away, they would have plenty of honey when picnic-time came.”
Everyone clapped. They thought it was a very good idea.
So if you see a queue of beers in the woods, you will know that they are waiting for the honey shop to open.
