You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic.
In some countries the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing.
What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.
1.
No one could have failed to notice the fact that people in many countries have been gaining weight, which, in some cases, has so far exceeded the right proportion that it has resulted in severe problems in people’s health. Actually, this is true both in some developing countries and in some developed ones, the former exemplified by some African nations and the latter represented by the U.S. Accompanying the exploding arms and massive hips are often such problems as hypertension, heart diseases and diabetes. Before we conceive approaches to this problem, it is necessary to contemplate the causes.
Though a number of factors may be responsible for this phenomenon, the following, I believe, are the critical ones. The first and most fundamental one is the unchecked spreading of fast food around the world. Mainly having roots in the U.S. and best illustrated by KFC and MacDonald’s, this modern type of food and way of eating has met little resistance when proliferating. Though tasty and convenient, the foods are indeed threats to health. Containing too much calorie and little protein as well as other nutrients, they are known as “junk food”. What’s worse, in these foods are usually harmful instances that may hurt the neural system and lead to such diseases as cancer. Another leading reason is the wide use of modern conveniences, such as computers, autos and domestic appliances, which considerably reduce the amount of people’s manual labor and exercise, or confine them to homes or offices.
In order to tackle the problem, naturally, measures should be taken in the above-mentioned two aspects. On the one hand, it is imperative for people to enhance their awareness of the harmfulness of fast food, and refrain from consuming it or gradually reduce the amount of consumption. On the other hand, it is high time for many people to start a plan to work out to lose their already gained weight and regain their health.
雅思这篇算是解决问题型的,还有一篇也是解决问题型的,我觉得出题角度很好,供大家参考:
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic.
Many people think it is important to protect the environment, but they make no effort to improve it. What can individuals do to protect the environment?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.
1.
Few topics can seize as much attention of the world as a whole as the issue of environmental protection, and in no part of human history has the topic been discussed as fervently as it is now. There is no denying the fact that it has long been a consensus that it is imperative to stop the environment from deteriorating. However, when it comes to personal efforts, many people, including strong advocates, shut up and become invisible.
A multitude of factors may lie behind this disagreement between words and action, or belief and practice, but the following might be the leading ones. In the first place, a number of environmentalists have been discouraged by the deeds of other members of their society, or by the performance of the government. There is no doubt that one would be inclined to sway his or her position when many and even most people around him or her think little of, misunderstand or even fiercely object to his or her idea. They are especially frustrated when the state fails to support or encourage their proposal. In the second place, a considerable section of people are unwilling to give up the present ways of living which may damage the environment but which provide them with comfort. They know the use of automobiles results in air pollution, but they just hate to go back to walking or cycling between work and home. They know air conditioners and refrigerators emit Freon which erodes the ozone layer, but they just would not live without them.
A number of other reasons may also be in existence, but they basically fall into the two categories mentioned above. In other words, people do not really feel the urgency of environmental protection or the necessity of starting with changing their own way of living. However, every evidence shows that human beings are at a crucial moment of survival, and a severe worldwide environmental crisis is already looming.
Things must be done now by every member of every society. For one thing, one should really reconsider the necessity of modern conveniences and retrieve a green way of living: less driving, more walking and cycling; less taking lifts, more climbing stairs; less time on the net or before the TV, more time in the park or with a book; less use of air conditioners, more use of fans; less use of refrigerators, more reasonable amount of cooking and other ways to preserve food. For another, one should believe that every little effort counts and try to influence people around him or her. Actually, the society is not a solid plate of steel, but is made up of thoughtful and intelligent beings. Therefore, we should be convinced that there will be an increasing number of people join the cause of environmental protection. Just as Chairman Mao, the late Chinese President, said, only a single spark can start a prairie fire.
