点睛：
第一句的主干为he wrote in a wall street journal column…，直接引语是主句的宾语。直接引语被分成两部分，一部分在主句前，另一部分在主句后。直接引语中首句的主干足the test...lies no( in...butin...however...，这是一个用副词however连接的并列句。
注意：一些副词有时可以当作连词来使用。

in the face of意为“面对”。
