Hidden Gems
A man was exploring some caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled up some clay and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but he took them.
As he strolled along the beach, he threw the clay balls into the ocean as far as he could. He thought little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked open. Inside was a precious stone. Excited, the man broke open the rest. Each contained a similar gem.
Instead of a few gems, he could have taken all of them home, but he just threw them away.
It's like this with people. The outside of some people seems plain, boring, unattractive. But each person holds a gem inside. The Bible says we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Look past the clay "earthen vessel." Take the time to get to know a person, then the clay begins to peel away and the gem shines forth.
