The Greengrocer's Horse
Daisy was a dear old horse who pulled a cart of vegetables all round the town. Daisy knew the way to go just as well as her master， the greengrocer.
Everybody in the town knew Daisy， and everybody liked her. As lots of the houses where she stopped， people would have tit-bits ready for her.
One summer morning Daisy and her master set out as usual. They went along one road， and then another， but the greengrocer had a headache and soon decided to go home. “Come along Daisy， round you go，” he said， and pulled at the reins to turn her round. This wasn't right， Daisy never turned here， she always went to the end of this road， and then round the corner. So， in spite of all her master's efforts， Daisy plodded on. She knew that work was not yet finished.
The greengrocer's headache was such a bad one that he decided to leave Daisy and go home. Off he went， walking back the way he had come. On went Daisy， the way she always did.
At every house where the people bought vegetables， Daisy stopped. When nobody came out to the cart she stamped with a front hoof， and whinnied down her nose， until people opened their doors to see whatever could be happening. When they saw that Daisy was alone they served themselves with vegetables and put their money in an old shoe box that the greengrocer always carried on the cart.
After Daisy had been to every house she turned for home. When she got there her master was feeling better and came out to meet her. He was pleased when he saw the box of money， and gave Daisy an extra big feed of oats for working so hard.
