Sailor Cat
There was once a Little Black Cat who hadn't a home.
One cold night, Little Black Cat was huddled in a shop doorway, shivering and hungry. As he crouched there, a lovely smell came drifting along the road. Not far away there was a fish and chip shop.
After a while, Little Black Cat could bear in no longer. The smell made him hungrier than ever. Creeping out from the shelter of the doorway, he went down the street.
Outside the brightly lit shop, Little Black Cat stood. As he sniffed the air the shop door opened and a sailor, carrying a packet of fish and chips, came out.
As the sailor passed, the hungry cat gave a sad “Miaouw!” Looking down, the man saw the thin little creature and threw him a chip. Hungrily, Little Black Cat ate the chip, then with another, “Miaouw!” he ran after the sailor.
All the time the sailor was walking to the harbour, Little Black Cat followed behind, creeping like a dark shadow at his heels. At last the sailor reached his ship and went up the gang plank to the deck; after him crept Little Black Cat, as close as close could be. Down the leader to his friends went the sailor and down went the cat. What a surprise all the sailors had when they saw who had come home with their fish and chips.
From that time on, Little Black Cat had a home, and food, and people to love him. He stayed on the ship, and became a real sailor cat.
