Pirate Pig
There was once a pig who lived beside a lake. On the lake lived ducks and other water birds, and in the middle was a small island, with long grass and shady trees. Pig longed to visit the island, but as he couldn't swim he could only look at it.
“If I could reach that island,” thought Pig, “I might find pirate's gold.”
One day, out for a stroll, Pig found a tub. “A boat,” he thought, and rolled it back to the lake. He went into his little hut and brought out his broom to make a mast. He made a black flag and painted a skull and crossbones on it, then tied it to the broomstick mast. He put a spotted handkerchief round his head, and set sail on the lake.
At last the tub reached the island and Pirate Pig started searching for treasure, but he forgot that all good pirates anchor their boat before going ashore. As Pig searched for treasure his tub drifted away.
By tea time he was tired and hungry. “I'll go home now,” he thought.
Back to the water's edge went Pirate Pig. He could hardly believe his eyes. Far out on the lake was his tub, the pirate flag flying from the mast, Pig began to cry.
Before long a friendly duck pushed the tub back to him. Pirate Pig climbed aboard and sailed for home. “It's too dangerous being a pirate,” he thought.
