Crocodile Joins in the Fun
The animals in the jungle were going to have a September fete. Lion had sent off all the invitations and everyone was very excited.
But crocodile had not been invited and Elephant wanted to know why.
“Well,” said Lion, “the last time he went out to tea, he snapped his teeth together so hard that the small animals were terrified, and he upset all the tables and chairs with his swishing tail.” Elephant went to talk to Crocodile. “It's quite true,” said Crocodile sadly. “I do snap my teeth and swish my tail. I can't help it. But I would like to go to the fete.”
Elephant thought hard - then he had and idea, as he watched Crocodile playing. He put a coconut at the end of his tail, then swishes his tail upwards. The coconut flew up in the air, and as it came down Crocodile opened his mouth and caught it on the tip of his nose.
“That's very clever, Crocodile,” he called. “You could do that at the fete!”
Lion had been watching too. “I have a plan,” he called to Elephant and told him.
“What a good idea,” bellowed Elephant, “I'll tell him.”
He called to Crocodile who came gliding up to him.
“You'll be able to come to the fete, after all,” he said.
“Yes,” said Elephant. “We've decided to hold it on the bank of the river. You can snap and swish as much as you like in the river. You can watch the fun and games and do your coconut act as well.”
Crocodile was so pleased!
