Bushytail at the Cat Show
One day, Bushytail's mummy called him and said: “Bushytail, I have packed some sandwiches and a bottle of sweet new milk in this little basket. Off you go to the fields and have a picnic.”
“Oh, thank you Mummy,” cried the little kitten, and picking up the basket, off he went with a hop, skin and a jump down the garden path, across the lane, and into the first field.
In the next field there were pretty butterflies playing in the sun.
“Hello, little Bushytail,” cried the butterflies, “are you on your way to the Grand Cat Show?”
“Dear me, no,” answered Bushytail.
In the next field there was a big oak tree.
“Hello, hello, little Bushytail,” said the tree. “Are you on your way to the Grand Cat Show?”
“Dear me, no,” answered Bushytail.
So Bushytail ate his picnic and on he went.
In the next field there was a big shed, and Bushytail went up to the shed with a hop, skip and a jump.
Inside that shed were rows and rows of big, soft cushions!
He slept for HOURS!
While Bushytail was asleep lots of people came in, carrying baskets - and what do you think was in the baskets? Cats! Black cats, white cats, ginger cats! Big cats, little cats, fat cats and thin cats! For this was the Grand Cat Show and it was just about to begin.
When at last Bushytail woke up, there was a big blue ribbon pinned on his cushion, and a card which said, First Prize for the Prettiest Cat in the Show!
Everyone made a great fuss of Bushytail and it was a very proud little kitten who went home singing:
“I went for a picnic and do you know - I won the first prize at the Grand Cat Show!”
