译文：
对药品的依赖性首先表现为不断增长的耐药量，要产生理想的效果所需的药品剂量越来越大，而一旦中断使用，就会出现痛苦的停药症状。
点睛：
句子的主干结构是dependence is marked firstby…，and then by...。逗号隔开的成分是with复合结构，with+名词+过去分词，作伴随状语，进一步解释药物依赖的第一种表现。when the substance isdiscontinued是时间状语从句。
另外注意名词在这里的特殊意义：dependence指“对药物的依赖，毒瘾”，withdrawal的意思是“停止用药”。
