趣味英语：比石家庄还囧的几个美国地名
前一阵子有不少人议论石家庄要不要改名，坚持要该的理由之一就是这个“庄”字有点土，与这个与首都为邻的省会大都市的地位很不相称翻成英语是village，撑死了也就是个town。这让我想起在美国的一些towns的名字其实也很囧，比我们石家那个庄子有过之而无不及。
比如犹他州中部有个小镇叫fillmore，听上去就像在麦当劳加点可乐或者加油站再多加点油fill more。密执根州有一个地方叫maybee，听起来就是maybe（也许）。这不是个大地方，你开车可能都找不着，你跟人家打听到“也许”还有多远，对方如果知道，就会说“‘也许’10英里”。
纽约州有个镇名叫flushing， flush在英语中的本意是“冲水”，加上ing成为现在分词，所以flushing听上去像是“冲啊”，和国内某些厕所内的标语意思差不多了。这个“冲啊”的地名还不止一个，密执根州也有个镇子叫flushing。同样使用现代分词作地名的还有俄勒冈的boring，烦着呢。
光是boring还不算什么，最不幸的地方是密执根的小镇hell，与地狱hell拼写完全相同。关于这个倒霉名字的来历，“地狱”人自己有个说法，据说很久很久以前，这个小镇之父（所谓founding father）建议用他的名字为这个城市命名，就像美国国父华盛顿的名字成为首都那么风光。不料当地镇民听了齐声喊no，结果那个“之父”生气了： then call it hell（那就叫“地狱”吧）！不知道hell在哪里，google一下，你就知道。
