The relationship between the U.S.and China is vitla to both countries,

to the Asia-Pacific region,and to our world as we enter a new century and a new millennium.
美中关系对我们两国、对亚太地区、对我们的世界都是至关重要的。
Our common interests transcend the issues that keep us apart.
我们的共同利益超越了我们的分歧。
China is currently undergoing the most immense changes in its long history.
中国正经历着其悠久历史中最重大的变革，
A modern,prosperous,stable China is in the interest of the United States,
一个繁荣、稳定的现代中国符合美国的利益，
as is China's rights covenants,non-proliferation agreements,
中国加入世界贸易组织、国际人权公约、
and fora for the peaceful resolution of security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
不扩散条约以及和平解决亚太地区安全问题论坛都符合美国利益。
With different histories,priorities,and cultures,
由于不同的历史、价值观和文化，我们之间不可避免地会存在分歧，
there will inevitably be differences between usbut I am confident the U.S.and China can advance our relationsin an atmosphere of mutual respect and understangding.
但我相信美国和中国能够在相互尊重和相互理解的氛围里推进我们的两国的关系。
The U.S.Mission in China plays a vital role in this effortand looks forward to working with our many friends in both the U.S. and China
