"oh, i wouldn't do that," montgomery replied. "in that case we would certainly send a force ourselves. i might be part of it and i'm not used to losing my battles."

一九五九年，七十二岁的蒙哥马利往洪都拉斯看儿子，并会晤危地马拉总统伊迪戈拉斯。伊迪戈拉斯警告说，假如英国不答应在加勒比海给危地马拉一个港口，他恐怕别无他法，惟有出兵进侵英属洪都拉斯。蒙哥马利回答说：「我是你，就不会这样做。你出兵，我们也一定会出兵，而我可能随军出征。我很少打败仗。」
