A Splash in the Lake
Once there were three little black bears called Teddy， Tubby， and Growley.
One day Mother Bears was feeling tired of their frisky ways， so she said：
“Off you go， up that tree where you will be safe. I am going to have a nap now， so you must stay there till I wake up.”
The little bears stayed up the tree for a while， then Teddy said：
“This is no fun. Let's go and have a splash in the lake.”
“Yes， let's，” added Tubby and Growley， clapping their paws. So they climbed quietly down the tree and trotted across to the lake.
But a man had been watching the bears.
“Not so fast！” he said. “I would like a little bear for a pet.”
He picked up Teddy， popped him into his bag， and marched off.
“What can we do？” cried Tubby.
“We must follow and set him free，” whispered Growley.
So they tiptoed after the man， keeping a good way behind in case he turned round.
They could both hear Teddy squealing and kicking inside the bag. It seemed hours before the man reached his house， but， at last， he put down the bag.
But as soon as he turned his back， Tubby and Growley crept up to the bag and opened it. Out jumped Teddy and off they all scampered as fast as they could.
“Now we are lost，” cried Teddy.
“Don't worry，” said Tubby. “We need only follow our trail to the lake.”
This they did， but， oh dear！ - it was the longest trail they had ever known. When they got back they were so tired they only wanted to have a long sleep.
Up the tree they climbed， as fast as their tired little legs would carry them. But before they had time to settle down， Mother Bear called：
“Come along， children. I have had my rest， so we will all go for a splash in the lake. We shall all enjoy that！”
And Mother Bear never did know why it was that her three children yawned all the way there and back from the lake.
