The Monkey Drivers
Bimbo and Sam were two monkeys who belonged to Joe. Joe owned a traveling fair.
When the fair moved from place to place, everything was packed away on to lorries, but Joe, with Bimbo and Sam on the seat beside him, drove an old bus.
As Joe drove the bus, Bimbo and Sam watched him. They thought they knew just what to do, and were sure they could drive.
One day the fair came to Thistle Green where it was staying for a week. Joe and his men set to work putting up the roundabouts, the swings, the dodg'em cars, and the coconut shies.
After a while Bimbo saw the dodg'em cars, all ready to use, and no one near them at all. Calling to Sam, he lowered the window and climbed out. Sam followed him, and soon the monkeys had each climbed into a dodg'em car.
Just then Joe came by. The monkeys looked to funny that he decided to let them have a turn on the dodg'ems. He switched on the electricity, and the cars began to move. The monkeys were so excited. They drove round, they bumped each other, they drove backwards. All Joe's men came to laugh at them.
Now the monkeys drive the dodg'ems every evening, and people pay to come and watch them. The monkeys wear crash helmets, and think they were racing drivers. They are very happy, and Joe is happy, because more and more people come to his fair to see the famous monkey drivers.
