Prince-The Little Black Pony
When Prince, the little black pony, was young, he used to pull a cart around the village. In the cart sat Mrs Todd, the farmer's wife, who liked to visit her friends. As prince grew older, Mrs Todd decided he could do with a rest so she bought herself a car instead, and put Prince in a meadow where he could do whatever he wanted.
One morning he heard Farmer Todd talking to his wife. “Have you heard what's happened to Postman Joe? He's sprained his ankle and he can't walk.”
Then Prince had an idea. He ran up to Mrs Todd and whinnied loudly.
“What do you want, Prince?” she asked.
Prince trotted off towards the barn and Mrs Todd followed. He went up to the little old cart which still stood in the corner and he stamped his hoof and tossed his head.
“Well! Would you believe it!” exclaimed Mrs Todd. “Prince has given me an idea. Postman Joe can take his letters round in the little cart and Prince can pull it for him. He knows his way round the village quite well. I'll suggest it to Joe.”
Postman Joe was delighted. He could just manage to hobble to the little cart with his bag of letters and then he set off through the village. Whenever he had a letter to deliver he stopped the cart outside the door and rang a big brass bell. The people came to their doors to collect the letters so Joe did not have to climb up and down.
They were all pleased to see Prince again and some people gave him lumps of sugar. Prince felt quite proud that he was such a popular little pony.
