Sparky the Squirrel
One day Sparky Squirrel decided he was tired of searching for nuts all day long. “There must be an easier way to collect food for my winter store. I wonder if there is a nut shop in the town?”
So the next morning he hopped out of bed and was well on his way before his friends were awake.
“My, my, this is fun!” said Sparky. There were so many things he had never seen before. On his scurried, until he came to long street with shops on both sides. Sparky scampered into a large department store and hoped round and round the counters until, at last, he jumped for joy. There, in front of him, was the largest pile of nuts he had ever seen. But, when he saw how much they cost, Sparky nearly burst into tears.
Just at that moment, a little boy who was buying a large bag of nuts, saw that poor Sparky was most upset, so he bent down and said: “Please have some of mine.” Sparky was quite delighted and crunched up the delicious nuts so quickly that in no time the bag was empty.
The little boy thought Sparky was very cute. “Why don't you come home with me?” he said. “I'd build you a fine tree-house in our garden and I would buy you lots and lots of nuts-assorted ones!”
“Assorted ones?” said Sparky excitedly. “In that case, I will come!” And off they went together. Of course, Sparky does pop back to his friends in the woods sometimes, but mostly he stays in his little tree-house, or plays with “Peanut”-the name he has given the little boy who brings him so many nuts!
