GIRL'S NAME
When our daughter was born, we named her Myles after my beloved late (1) father, despite family warnings that the name was too masculine (2).
Years later, when I felt she was old enough to understand, I explained to Myles, “Your name is very special .I named you after my own father (3) because I loved him very much .I know he would be proud of you.”
Myles though carefully about this and then said, “I know all that, Mom .But I don’t understand why my grandfather had a girl’s name.”
女儿出生时，我们不顾家人提醒说“迈尔斯”这个名字太男性化了，给她取了迈尔斯，和我深爱的已故父亲同名。
几年后，我觉得迈尔斯已经长大，能够懂事了，便对她解释说：“你的名字很特别。我给你起了个和我爸爸同样的名字，因为我非常爱他。我相信他会为你而深感骄傲的。”
迈尔斯认真地想了一会，然后说：“妈妈，这些我都懂，可我不明白外公怎么会有个女孩子的名字。”

1： late 已故：前任的
2： masculine 男子气的：有男子特性或外观的
3： name A after B 以B的名字来命名A
